During the day, your core body temperature gradually rises, reaching its peak in the late afternoon. As night approaches, your body starts to cool down in preparation for sleep. This drop in core temperature signals to your brain that it’s time to wind down and triggers the release of melatonin, the hormone that makes you feel sleepy.

In fact, studies show that cooler body temperatures are conducive to falling asleep and staying asleep. The optimal sleep environment is typically between 60 to 67 degrees Fahrenheit, as it allows your body to cool down enough to enter deeper stages of sleep. Body Temperature and REM Sleep

Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep is one of the most important stages of sleep, responsible for dreaming, memory consolidation, and emotional regulation.
