10 Strategies I’ve Used to Turn Back the Clock
If you know me, you know that I am passionate about helping others feel empowered to restore and optimize their health— mentally and physically. Today I want to share with you the main strategies I’ve used to turn back the biological clock, but first— let me tell you a little bit about how I got to where I am today.
After publishing Cancer Hacks in 2016, the fear of getting cancer again was, honestly, still a concern. I was still dealing with Hashimoto’s, anxiety, and other ailments that were taking tolls on my body. Moving into my late 50s and with my 60th birthday approaching, I knew I had to take steps to turn back the clock and keep my body as healthy as possible. Once I genuinely prioritized this part of my life, I began moving into what have been the absolute best years of my life. I never knew I could feel so good! While it may take some time to get there, I want you to know that you are the CEO of your health and have more control over it than you have been made to believe. Here are the ten strategies I suggest for turning back your biological clock (because they’re the strategies I used myself!):
1. Find the right practitioner
This one is first for a reason, as it truly is the first step to taking control of your health and turning back the clock. There are SO many fantastic healthcare practitioners out there. Unfortunately, there are so not so great ones, too. Many are overworked and even underpaid— and simply don’t have the time to truly listen to your concerns, ask the right questions, and do the digging needed to get to the bottom of your symptoms. We underestimate how many factors may be at play regarding our health, so the more questions they ask, the better! Be open-minded and trust your gut. It has more wisdom than you think. 😉
2. Dive into the proper lab work
Another major factor in anyone’s healing journey is asking for the correct lab work and interpreting it correctly. For example, many traditional Western medicine practitioners only order a complete blood count (CBC) and a comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) when a patient asks for bloodwork. The truth is, there is SO much more that we should look into to get a complete picture of our health. For starters, nutrient panels and thyroid tests are critical markers, especially for women. The right practitioner will be able to guide you to the correct tests, too.
3. Improve your diet
You know I’d include this one! But it is true—your diet has a huge impact on the aging process and how you feel each and every day. Put simply, here’s what I recommend consuming:
A varied, plant-rich diet
Protein variety (ensure animal protein is clean) and healthy fats
Complex carbs rather than simple
At least 75% plant-based
Fresh, organic green (veggie) juice often
High fiber, polyphenol, and antioxidant-foods
4. Incorporate high-quality supplements
Supplements can be excellent tools for optimizing our health. It is important to remember, however, that finding high-quality brands that source sustainably without using fillers or additives is vital to your supplement success! Since there isn’t a lot of oversight into supplement products, unfortunately, not all brands can be trusted. That said, some highly responsible brands I love have enormously impacted my healing and turning back the clock. Here are just some of my favorites for everyday use.
5. Look into spiritual healing practices
Some people run for the hills when they hear the word ‘spiritual,’ but I can tell you from experience… they are doing themselves a disservice! All this word means is nonmaterial, relating to the human spirit. And tending to this part of us can do a world of healing good. This can be as simple as yoga, meditation, or journaling, but it also includes Reiki, Feng shui, Reflexology, crystals, acupuncture, and beyond. I have been doing energy healing every week for 12 years. When I did this for the first time, it felt like I had released 13 years’ worth of energy in one session (and I had already been in therapy for 13 years)!
6. Open your mind to alternative methods of healing
The modes of healing go beyond diet, exercise, and mental health practice. There are so many ways to improve your health and wellness just waiting for you to dive into and explore! Some examples that have helped me include infrared sauna sessions, cryotherapy, NAD IV therapy, lymphatic massage, and colonics.
7. Consider healing plant journeys
Healing plants and mushrooms such as ayahuasca, psilocybin, Kanna, or marijuana have been used for mental and physical healing for centuries. I was afraid and anxious at the thought of trying any type of plant journey for healing, but let me tell you—I am SO glad I did. I have embarked on a few different plant journeys in the past couple of years and have experienced intense inner peace and understanding as a result. That said, great care should be taken before deciding to go on a journey, and it should only be done with an experienced and vetted guide. While this type of journey is not for everyone, so only do so if you find a safe space and feel ready.
8. Detox… your whole life
In today’s world, we are inundated with toxins, so it is so essential to ensure you are doing your research and only using and consuming clean products and ingredients as much as possible. Detoxing is necessary for everything from makeup, skin and hair care to household products and cleaners, water quality, mold mitigation/awareness, furniture, bedding, paint, and so much more.
9. Discover true self love
You can implement every other strategy on this list, but if you don’t love yourself—they won’t work! When you genuinely love yourself, you release your ego, and your passion and purpose become clear. You can recognize your trauma and heal from it, forgive yourself from past mistakes, find inner peace, and be your own best friend. Sounds fantastic, right? 10. Adopt a cleansing lifestyle
Over the years, I have learned that turning back the clock and taking charge of your health does not come by following a specific diet or workout. It has to become an attainable lifestyle that works for you. Start slowly and work your way up to goals—for example, if you know you need ten supplements a day but know that isn’t realistic for you right off the bat, look into a nutrient deficiency test to see which three you need the most and start there. Want to work out an hour a day, but one hour feels like a lifetime presently? Start by just getting moving for fifteen or twenty minutes. A cleansing lifestyle does not have to happen overnight, nor should it. Find what works for you, and implement change gradually.
In the last few years, since really diving into the physical, emotional, and spiritual sides of healing, all of the doors I never dreamed I could have the opportunity to walk through have opened. My health has been better than ever, I have found people on the same wavelength resulting in amazing connections, and I have felt safer and more comfortable in my own skin than ever before. It has been a journey, as is life, and I know I will still have my ups and downs!
